Creativity Unites is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Holland, Michigan, founded in September 2025 to build community through creative disciplines, because everyone can create, whether or not they'd call themselves an artist.

We've watched a quiet child find her voice because someone asked her a genuine question and listened to the answer. We've seen people walk in convinced they don't belong, and years later have to be nudged out the door at closing time. We've watched a room full of people of different ages, backgrounds, and abilities make something together and leave changed by it.
That's not a program outcome. That's a culture.
Creativity Unites was founded to intentionally build more of those moments for everyone. We grow from the foundation of Dance United, a studio that has shaped confident, connected people of all ages in Holland since 2019. What they built proved it was possible. We're here to expand it.

WHat Guides Everything we Do…
We didn't choose these values. They showed up every time we paid attention to what was actually working.
When everyone invests something, like time, energy, or resources, the community stops feeling like something being done for you and starts feeling like something you're building together. That shows up in the student who stays to help clean the space, the family who covers a classmate's costs without being asked, and the dancer who becomes a paid coach because they've earned it. Skin in the game changes everything.
Contribution Creates Ownership.
Every detail communicates something. The way the place looks and smells when you walk in. The greeter at the front desk. The way we answer an email. The signage and cueing throughout the studio help students with disabilities find their place. The week of holiday parties, we host just to make returning rentals feel like an event. None of that is accidental. It's how we say: you matter here, and we thought about you before you arrived.
Hospitality is intentional.
We don't only measure success by what gets produced. We measure it by who people become. The alumni who go on to become leaders in their careers in health, education, business, and sciences aren't a gap in our mission; they're proof of it. A director at a well-respected, nationally known competition once pulled us aside to say he hadn't seen a studio building people of this level of character in years. That's the standard we care about. The events are something we work hard to create, but the people are always the point.
Formation over performance.
Not because a program requires it. Just because that's the culture we've built. When someone in our community needs something, a classmate who needs support, a family going through something hard, a student who just needs someone to notice, people move toward each other. That doesn't happen by accident. It happens because belonging is real here, and real belonging makes people brave enough to show up for each other.
The community shows up.
An artistic judge once said during our recorded feedback something we've never forgotten: joy and humor are far harder to perform than anger or sadness. Most people assume the opposite. But real joy, the kind that fills a room and makes an audience lean forward, takes courage, skill, and a community that's safe enough to mean it.
We take our work seriously. We don't take ourselves seriously. The studio is full of laughter, and we've learned that's not a distraction from the mission. It's evidence that the work is working.
Joy is the work.
We mean it when we say everyone belongs here. But belonging is one of the hardest things humans do. It requires staying open to people who are different from you, being willing to be known rather than just liked, and choosing real connection over managing people from a comfortable distance.
We're not perfect at it either. This is a community of real people navigating full, complicated lives. We ask for the same grace from our community that we extend to it; toward our staff, our leadership, and the families around you who are doing their best.
Here's what we've learned after years of building community: staying open to people who frustrate you, holding space for someone whose timeline isn't yours, and extending grace when you'd rather not. That's some of the hardest work there is. Harder than any class we teach. But the payoff is a community that's actually real. Not curated. Not comfortable all the time. Real. And that's what we're building here, together, imperfectly, and absolutely worth it.
